Ban Pako is an ecotourism lodge on a site where our ancestors lived some 2000 years ago. It is located by the Nam Ngum river, about 50 kms from Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

The lodge is located about 50 km from Vientiane .

Take Route 13 from Vientiane to the south. Turn left at the sign, 24 km out of town, and follow the main road. You can also leave your vehicle at Som Sa Mai village and take a 25 minutes boat ride down the river. There are also buses that leave from the bus station at the morning market in Vientiane.

The lodge, built with natural materials in a Lao-style, has a spectacular view of the Ngum River, forest and the Phu Kha Khouai or Buffalo Horn Mountains. The lodge is perfectly located for “getting away” from Vientiane . It is a wonderful spot simply to take it easy and enjoy life at a leisurely pace and learn about the culture, nature and history of the Lao PDR.

The lodge is situated on a calm bend of the Nam Ngum about 55 km from Vientiane or one and a half hours by public transport

Ban Pako took three years to build and was opened in 1995. A traditional longhouse has been turned into a cosy reception, bar and lounge area. There are currently eight double rooms, six of them in bungalows that overlook the river. Five double rooms are forest rather than river-orientated. This will give you the experience of staying in the jungle with all its wonderful sights and sounds but with a feeling of being content, secure and stress-free within the lodge. Additionally, there are dormitory facilities for 8 people The whole lodge is powered by solar cells, the obvious choice for a real eco-lodge.
